This doc is a really rough outline for setting out your writing. You should use images and even video where appropriate.

Materials Needed:
tape,straws

Instructions for Homemade Instrument:
  1. first you will need 5 straws
  2. then cut them shorter and shorter on each one
  3. then tape them all together
  4. then blow through it
  5. then sound comes out

Explanation of how sound is created:I am going to explain how it makes sound

Main reason:when blow through the straw it makes a funny sound

Second reason:because it is hollow in side

Third reason:then the sound travel through the straw

Fourth reason:Then sound comes out from the bottom

Science Roadshow

On friday classes 2 and 5 had a opportunity to go to the science roadshow at tamaki college.

We had to get to school before 8:30 so we can go there early. We all had to pay 8 dollars. When we got to school the teachers mark the roll then we all lined up outside. Then we all headed off to tamaki college by feet.

When we finally got there,There was this tall really really really tall man at the door he was telling us about it and what kind of things that were in there. Then he told us to head in side line by line.

As we were walking inside there were lots of in there. We all sat on the chairs that were inside. There 3 people in front of us. They were telling us some interesting thing and what will happen. Then all told us to have a look around and and found out how it works.

When we were having a good look around we all had a little card and we all had to figure out what thing where and how they work. When you finish everything on that card you will have write your name on it and put it in the box so you can win a prize.

Then we all got called back. Then they were announcing who the winners were and the two winners were martha and sonny and they won a pen.

Then they were as a balloon and they were blowing it up with some kind gas and we all had to block because it was that loud but the teachers were ear gear thingys. Then we all went back to school.

Chloe Guitar

The guitar is one of the most popular instruments to play. A guitar makes beautiful harmonies.

The guitar is shaped like a pear and it has six strings. When you strum a guitar it makes a funny sound. The guitar is made of wood metal and all sorts of thing the strings on the guitar is made out of metal wire. On the guitar there is its neck, tuning keys ,Bridge, sound hole and strings.

But how does a guitar make sound? A guitar is like a box and when you strum the strings inside the box it echos. Then it makes sound and that is how a guitar makes sound. The guitar is shaped the way it is so that the sound can go louder. Thats why it’s hollow inside. If it wasn't hollow inside, the sound wouldn't come out clearer than it does.

If you would want to play the guitar you would need to know some chords and you would need a pick so you can strum the guitar.

Sarona and Chloe Funnel experience

Science experiment:
Question: What will happen to the sound if I change the shape of a piece of paper? (e.g. from a flat shape to a funnel shape)
Links to research about Sound:
http://www.thetech.org/exhibits/online/robotzoo/guide/bats_and_echoes.html
Hypothesis: (What do you think will happen?) e.g. I think that….
It might echo.
Materials needed:
Paper, Tape and Tissue
Experiment (procedure):
e.g. Step 1 -
First hold a flat piece of paper against you're ear.
Step 2 -
Let you're partner speak into it.
Step 3 -
Fold you're piece of paper like a cone.
Step 4 -
Then put your  tissue in and see what it would sound like.
Step 5 -
Then test everyone in you're classroom to see what they would sound like too.
Data (What happened?)
Shape/object/materials
Results:
1
flat piece of paper
Clearer? Didn't make any difference.
2
funnel facing to the front
It sound the same.
3
funnel facing to the side
It was defferent than before. It was louder than before.
4
cotton ball blocking funnel
It sounded different because it sounded like there was a little baby speaking to me when they were speaking. It also sounds blurry.
5
rolled up piece of paper (facing to the front)
Well it doesn't make a difference when my friend talk’s it sound’s the same. It also vibrates into  your my ear.
6
rolled up piece of paper (facing to the side)
Well it doesn't make a difference when my friend talk’s it sound’s the same. It also vibrates into  your my ear.
Observations:
Flat Piece of paper did not make any difference. Funnel facing to the front sound the same.Funnel facing to the side was defferent than before. it was louder than before. Cotton ball funnel sounded defferent because it sounded like there was a little baby speaking to me when they they were talking in it. Rolled up piece of paper doesn't make a difference when my friend talk’s it sound’s the same. It also vibrates into  your my ear.
Conclusion:
My hypothesiswas wrong because it did echo and it did make the right sounds we wanted to hear. When your partner talks to you through it would sound louder and you would hear them clearly.

Science experiment

Science experiment:

Question: What will happen to the sound if I cut the straw shorter? it will make a funny sound that kinda sounds like a fart

Links to research about Sound:

Hypothesis: (What do you think will happen?) e.g. I think that there will be no sound when I blow through it

Materials needed: straw and scissors

Experiment (procedure):
e.g. Step 1 - crease straw 2-3cm on one end

Step 2 - cut the creased end of the straw into the  shape of a  triangle. blow air into cut end

Step 3 - listen to the sound

Step 4 - cut it shorter

Step 5 - blow on cut end and listen

Data (What happened?)
straw length---results
long 15cm----- makes sound
10cm------ sound was higher
5cm------- sound was more high pitched.

Observations:

When I cut it it made a funny but when I cut it shorter the sound went higher then I cut it a bit more then the sound went to a high pitch sound

Conclusion:

My Hypothesis was wrong  because it did make sound and every time you cut to straw shorter the sound would make a high pitch sound.

What would it be like without sound

Home
School
Outside
Other
What types of sounds can you hear?
e.g. phone ringing
e.g. people talking
e.g. children laughing
e.g. cars whizzing past
Which sounds do you like listening to? Why?
tv , music , people , Because its good to communicate
friends , jokes , laughing  because i like to laugh with my friends
laughing ,  mama  jokes they make me laugh
i like to listen to the cars go past
Why sounds are annoying? Why?
brother crying
because i'm trying to watch tv
when its quiet because akward
nothing
when its loud cause it hurts my ears.

Finally, think about what your world would be like if you didn't have sound. What would it be like if you couldn't hear a single thing, or if you had to live in absolute silence? What do you think it would be like?

What would it be like if you couldn't hear anything you couldn't hear the t.v you couldn't hear your mum calling you you couldn't hear anything. So this is why my class is writing about what it would be like without sound.

I like to listen to lots of things at home like the t.v and my family and friends that talk to me a lot. So if I couldn't hear any of those thing my life would be really boring at home.

Out side I like to listen to the cars go past because I like fast cars that make loud sounds and I like to talk to my neighbours because there nice people. If we couldn't hear those sound it would be dangerous because will not no if a car was coming.
